Job Purpose

The Relationship Manager, SME is responsible for achieving business growth for the Bank by selling SME Unit products within assigned market segments. The RM will be required to manage a portfolio of SME customers, meet growth targets in Assets and Liabilities as well as revenues.

Key Responsibilities
·       Develop effective strategies to manage customer relationships, anticipate customer needs and provide a superior quality service to position GAB as the market leader in this segment

·       To build and maintain productive and strategic relations with customers/ line manager/ stakeholders to drive the development and delivery of business solutions and revenue growth for the assigned sectors

·       Build existing and win new long-term customer relationships

·       Keep abreast of external factors influencing business e.g. economic, procedural and regulatory requirements

·       Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of customer and deal pipeline information as required Monitor relationship performance regularly to ensure that the return is commensurate with the type of customer.

·       Take timely and proactive corrective action to mitigate potential losses, exercising effective portfolio stewardship and control.

·       Ensure strong cross-selling of existing and new products to existing and new clients; and in this process, maintain effective liaison with all relevant business units in the bank

·       Filing concise, but informative, call reports after customer visits (these should specify topics discussed, customer needs/ feedback, potential product needs, next steps, credit-relevant information etc.).

·       Build a high-quality client portfolio by effectively managing clients across the entire credit cycle. Grow the bank’s liabilities, assets and non-funded income (NFI) in the SME banking sector, meeting set targets.

·       Prepare and submit the branch periodic SME Business growth Plan.

·       Promote active utilization of the bank’s Credit and Treasury facilities to existing and potential clients.

·       Conduct consistent monitoring to prevent defaults on client’s payment, alterations in the client’s business, and to be aware of forthcoming client’s financial needs

·       Continuously scan the environment to identify fresh business opportunities and play an active role in product development relevant to the SME Banking sector.

·       Evaluate credit proposals and ensure the credit applications are processed on a timely basis within the bank’s set turnaround times.

·       Ensure continuous improvement in customer service and implement effective retention of customers within the SME banking framework.

Skills, Experience and Competencies
·       Business Degree from a recognized university with a major in Finance, Marketing and/or Economics.

·       Relevant post graduate professional qualification AKIB will be an added advantage

·       Proven experience of at least 2 years in a similar position (relationship management, business banker)

·       Possess good Credit Appraisal Techniques and Report writing skills
