The Board of Directors of Gulf African Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Anuj Mediaratta as the new Chief Executive Offices (CEO) Gulf African Bank with immediate effect following the retirement of Mr. Abdalla Abdulkhalik.

Anuj Mediaratta is an accomplished banker with over 25 years’ experience. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Anuj was the Bank’s Deputy CEO and Head of Banking. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the Corporate, SME and Retail Busineses and the Product Development. Before joining Gulf African Bank, Anuj held several senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank including Managing Principal – Head Commercial Banking Kenya & East Africa and Executive Principal – Head Commodity Traders & Agribusiness Africa. Anuj also worked for Barclays Africa. He is a chartered accountant.

Abdalla Abdulkhalik

The Board of Directors of Gulf African Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Abdalla Abdulkhalik as an Executive Director of Gulf African Bank with immediate effect following his retirement as the Bank’s Managing Director.

Mr. Abdulkhalik served as the Bank’s Managing Director for a period of 9 years during which the Bank’s total assets doubled to Kshs 38Bn, customer deposits grew from Kshs 15Bn to Ksh 30Bn , financing arrangements increased by 60% with the Bank’s customer base expanding by 50%. Prior to this, he was the Bank’s General Manager in charge of business for a period of 3 years.

During his tenure, the Bank achieved many firsts including the introduction of the first Shari’ah compliant credit card in East Africa, launch of the Shari’ah Compliant Insurance Premium Financing, setting aside of 20% of the Bank’s produrement opportunities to women, establishment of the GAB Foundation and recently the launch of Halal Pesa, the first Shari’ah-compliant mobile financing product in Kenya.

Mr. Abdulkhalik was also a member of the Governing Council of Kenya Bankers’ Association between 2017 and 2021. He is an experienced banker with over 34 years of banking experience both in Kenya (Citibank) and Saudi Arabia (Samba Financial Group) and is a certified Islamic Banker with the Islam Finance Institute, London.
